A craft of materials

From raw material to unique piece

After fifteen years dedicated to art crafts and the manufacture of custom furniture, Stéphane Mausmond, Artisan Designer, Tarn, France unveils his collection of artisanal lighting.

A passionate artisan designer with a love for materials, he is the creator behind Atelier Maus. His journey is that of a multidisciplinary artist and artisan, shaped by initial artistic and craft training, augmented and refined by a series of essential collaborations over twenty years.

Constantly seeking expertise, he trained alongside expert professionals: cabinetmakers, metalworkers, stuccoists, mosaicists, and stage decor manufacturers. This multiplicity of approaches, nurtured by a fervent self-taught spirit, allowed him to develop cross-disciplinary expertise, applied in the creation and manufacture of custom home furnishings and furniture pieces.

Today, he applies this synthesis of experiences to the creation of unique lighting fixtures, the result of work focused on material and design purification, embodying a creative approach that values timelessness and authenticity.Photo showing Stéphane Mausmond bending stone sheets | Atelier Maus

Revealing the richness of the material

At the heart of Stéphane's approach is a deep fascination for raw material. Steel, stone, and coatings are his preferred mediums.

"My goal is to exploit and reveal the richness of materials – their texture nuances, their deep hues – while preserving their integrity and authenticity. I seek emotion in the truth of the gesture and the material. Authenticity is our ultimate luxury."

A sobriety of design, simplicity of forms and silhouettes allow the material itself to become the focal point of the work.

A dialogue between eras and cultures

The aesthetic language of Atelier Maus draws on diverse influences, creating a unique and resonant style:

The Bauhaus

For the alliance between art and technique, functionality and clean lines.

Wabi-Sabi

For the acceptance of the beauty of imperfection, the patina of time, and humility.

De Stijl

For geometric rigor and compositional balance.

Streamline

For fluidity, dynamism, and elegance of forms.

French artisanal manufacturing

Each lamp is the result of an entirely manual manufacturing process carried out in our workshop. From steel cutting to patinated finishes, from lampshade structure to stone sheet forming, each step is executed by hand with meticulous attention to detail.

Our techniques of patina and oxidation of the lamp bases reveal unique finishes. Coppered, burnished, iridescent steel, or coated with bronze or brass powder, each luminaire bears the imprint of its creation.

The authentic singularity of the stone sheet gives our lampshades a unique virtue: diffusing a refined light, deeply nuanced and rich in gradients.

Each luminaire is a unique piece entirely handmade in France. It is the fruit of savoir-faire and constant functional and aesthetic research.

Honest value for sustainable craftsmanship

In a market often governed by rapid consumption, Atelier Maus adopts a firm and ethical stance:

Fair prices, without artifice

The workshop is resolutely anti-promotion, abstaining from sales, Black Friday, or discounts.

"The illusion of a discount masks the product's value. Fair pricing has become a fiction. Our prices reflect the quality of our work, the true cost of materials, and a fair value of the artwork."

Durability and reliability

Emphasis is placed on the durability and reliability of the products, guaranteeing creations made to last through time.

Transparent communication

Atelier Maus strives to create simple and honest communication to offer products perfectly adapted to the specific demands of its customers.

Our commitment: your complete satisfaction

"We are committed to ensuring that every customer is fully satisfied with their purchase. If, for any reason, the product does not meet their expectations, we apply the Satisfaction or Your Money Back policy, with full coverage of return costs."

Our workshop's offering is aimed at a demanding clientele, seeking luminaires that are true functional works of art, carrying a story, an ethics, and proven durability.Stéphane Mausmond presents his steel and stone sheet table lamps | Atelier Maus
